Heritage

I baked several cakes yesterday (7 in fact) for a little get together of the girls in the Kindergarten class.  I wanted to use a small heart cake pan that I own, but I couldn't (for the life of me) find it.  This is not surprise, as I often can not find things in my home.  Anyway, I decided that I would bake slightly larger cakes.  I figured, this would give the girls a larger surface area to cover.  I pulled out two 9 inch, round cake pans and started baking.

Today, I was washing those pans.  (Don't judge me...  I do wash my dishes frequently the next day.)  As I was scrubbing out the cake residue, I started thinking about the pan itself.  You see, this pan was Handsome Prince's grandmother's.  It was given to her daughter, my mother-in-law, and then in turn to me.  I started to think about how I was using the same pan that she used to bake her cakes in.  I never had the chance to meet Handsome Prince's grandmother, but whenever he speaks of her, he has this sweet, loving remembrance in his eyes.  He describes her as a kind woman, who loved the Lord.  As, I cleaned that pan, I hoped and prayed that someday I would be described that way by my grandchildren.  And maybe, they would use this pan, to bake their children a cake.

Unexpected Gift

"It has a corn!" - Jenna

Handsome Prince arrived this evening with an unexpected gift....

Home Made Fun

Handsome Prince took Friday off from work so we could enjoy the last few days of summer with our Little Women.  After deciding that EVERYTHING is too expensive to do with a family of 6, we made up our own home made fun!

Getting a little late for the Littlest Woman...

Blink

There is this song on the radio that has been playing recently.  I believe the name of it is "Blink".

This summer we joined the Community Pool as we have every summer since we moved back "home".  It is right in our backyard, so we can literally walk or bike there in just a few minutes.  We go almost every night, if even for only an hour or so.

Handsome Prince gets home fairly late, most evenings.  However, he whisks in with a smile on his face (after conquering dragons all day), dons his swim trunks within minutes and takes our Little Women to play in the pool.  How he manages to do this some evenings is beyond me.

This has been my favorite part of this summer.  Our entire little family swimming together, playing together, being together.

Last night however, before Daddy came home, my eldest Little Woman, announced that she didn't want to go to the pool tonight.  I couldn't believe it.  This has been the one activity that has spanned all the kids.  Everyone is "happy" at the pool.

Then Handsome Prince walked in the door.  All the other Little Women ran to get their suits on.  I figured this evening, I would be staying at home with Eldest and Handsome Prince would have to take the little ones by himself.  I didn't mind at that moment, I had plenty of dishes and housework to catch up on.  Then, whether it was because the other girls were getting dressed and she didn't want to be left out, or because she didn't want to miss any Daddy time, Eldest came downstairs in her swimsuit.  I left the housework, put my suit on and we went to the pool.

We played with our kids for those last 40 minutes of pool time...  and that song kept playing my head....

"Teach me to number my days

And count every moment before it slips away

Taking all the colors before they fade to gray

I don't want to miss even just a second more of this

It happens in a blink

It happens in a flash

It happens in the time it takes to look back

I try to hold on tight, but there's no stopping time

What is it I've done with my life

It happens in a blink

Slow down, slow down

Before today becomes our yesterday

Slow down, slow down

Before you turn around and it's too late"

I love pink...

I have never really understood blogging.  It never appealed to me.  I would sit there and think, "Who is sitting around reading all these blogs?" Then today, I stumbled upon a friend's blog.  I call her a friend, but I guess I didn't really know her.  You see, as I read through the pages of her blog, her true spirit, her real perspective on life came through.  As I read through my tears, I realized I have just scratched the surface of this woman.  It was beautiful!

More than that, if no one, ever reads this woman's blog, she still will have created this amazing gift for her children.  A story of their life together...  Her beautiful perspective on their life, preserved for her children.

I have never been one to keep a journal.  It didn't fit.  I would rather be out living life than writing about it.  But here I go.  So if no one, except my children read this some day, it will be worth it.  So, I have signed up and chosen a pink background for my blog.  I have always loved pink.  It is my favorite color.  Pink is even more appropriate today, as I have 4 "Little Women" in my home.  As we are learning, loving and growing, I pray that my girls will get a glimpse of our lives, through my rose colored glasses.
